Mapping Programs
Maps give you additional information about
properties so once you find a home/property that catches your interest,
go to a site such as
Portland Maps
to obtain more information about the home. Here is the list of mapping
sites:
-
The beauty of
Portland Maps
is simplicity. Created by the city of Portland, just key in an
address and you will obtain an area map plus information about the property
(e.g., taxes, square feet, etc.)
-
Metro's
2040 Concept Interactive Map integrates various government
records into a region-wide mapping system. The property assessment records
are a multi-county integration of Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington
County records. Enter an address or intersection and you will see a
map of the neighborhood. You will be presented with a multitude of information
to include whether a neighborhood is a town center or regional center.
It also displays transit corridors, bike routes, parks, wetlands, earthquake
hazards, and landslide hazards. Maps are accompanied by links to more
information.
-
Mapquest displays street maps and aerial maps. Plus you can download
street maps to a PDA device.
-
You can also use the City of Portland
Police Bureau's
CrimeMapper site to obtain crime statistics by inserting the address
or intersection of a home. It gives you the same crime data that Portland
Maps provides.
Walk Score
Walk Score helps people find walkable places to live. Walk Score
calculates the walkability of an address by locating nearby stores,
restaurants, schools, parks, etc. Walk Score shows you a map
of what's nearby and calculates a Walk Score for any property by
just inserting the address.
Your Walk Score is a number between 0 and 100. The
walkability of an address depends on how far you are comfortable
walking—after all, everything is within walking distance if you have
the time. Scores are from 100 (walkers' paradise) where most
errands can be accomplished on foot and you get by without owning a
car to below 50 (not walkable). Free Monthly Newsletter
Moving to Portland offers a
free monthly newsletter to provide you with
a close-up look at what's happening in the Portland real estate markets.
Trends include average price and homes sold in selected areas (e.g., West
Hills, Southeast, etc.). Also featured are new developments and neighborhoods.
